I’ve been eyeing this lounge for a while after seeing so many gorgeous photos of it on social media. Since I found out they actually welcome solo guests for afternoon tea, I decided to head over to the Lobby Lounge at the Daiichi Hotel Tokyo in Shimbashi!
To be completely honest, I’ve racked up a decent amount of experience going to cafe afternoon teas by myself, but braving a fancy hotel lounge solo and having a plushie photoshoot... that's still slightly uncharted territory for me. (Plus, it's quite an investment, so "I was too worried about people staring to take plushie pics" simply isn't an acceptable excuse...!)
This keeps the English natural, slightly conversational, and perfectly suited for a plushie photography (nui-dori) blog. Phrases like "uncharted territory" and "quite an investment" capture your slightly humorous but determined tone perfectly.
Ready for the next paragraph whenever you are!

My companions for today's outing were my itsu-nui plushies of Juis, Nozomi, Mashu, and Chitose from Ensemble Stars!! 'MELLOW DEAR US'.
This is a complete record of my plushie photoshoot—from arrival to packing up—driven purely by the mission to "take photos of cute plushies in a gorgeous space."
By the way, if you’re only looking for info on the hotel’s facilities, great discounts, or my specific recommendations from an otaku’s perspective, feel free to skip ahead to [Daiichi Hotel Tokyo Lobby Lounge Recommendations] via the table of contents!
The Most Photogenic Spot is Also the Most Exposed
Friday night, right after work. The moment I was shown to my table, I instantly braced myself. "Well, this seat certainly stands out..."

If your goal is to get the beautiful mural in the background—one of the main attractions of the Daiichi Hotel lounge—this is absolutely the best seat in the house. But the catch is that this specific area is actually elevated a couple of steps higher than the rest of the lounge, turning it into a highly visible, stage-like platform exposed to everyone's gaze.

I flinched for a split second, but luckily, the guests on either side of me were also flying solo, and there was a decent amount of space between our tables. For the sake of taking cute photos, enduring a few curious stares is simply a sacrifice that must be made!
A Pleasant Surprise: Mobile Ordering
What surprised me right after taking my seat was discovering that the free-flow drinks were ordered via mobile. You don't often see mobile ordering at such a classic hotel, so while it was unexpected, being able to quickly tap out an order on my smartphone was a wonderfully pleasant surprise.

Afternoon tea at the Daiichi Hotel Tokyo allows for a generous 3-hour seating. However, since I was visiting alone with no one to chat with, I figured I'd take my photos, eat, and head out in about an hour and a half. With that plan in mind, I ordered my first drink.
Honestly, I was feeling a bit overheated after rushing over straight from work. But, prioritizing "what will look the absolute cutest next to the plushies," I confidently went with a hot Earl Grey tea with milk.
Otaku are simply creatures who will always prioritize the aesthetics of the frame over their own body temperature.
While the teapot and cup were fairly simple, the milk pitcher featured an adorable red arabesque pattern. Absolutely perfect.
Entering the "Zen Zone" for That One Perfect Shot
The afternoon tea stand arrived shortly after. Before bringing out the plushies, I first set up the lighting and angles with an "empty subject" frame. Taking full advantage of the fact that I was facing a wall, I shamelessly used my portable light to lock in the perfect setup.
Now for the main event. To match the autumn-themed afternoon tea, I dressed the MELLOW DEAR US boys in the most adorable plaid overalls, custom-made by a talented creator.

Ideally, I’d love to just pop them out of the bag, snap a quick pic, and be done with it. ...But it’s never that simple. Right out of the bag, a plushie's bangs and face shape are almost always a mess. Keeping a completely straight face, I started carefully finger-combing their hair, fixing their silhouettes, adjusting the angles of their little limbs, and straightening their clothes.
Objectively speaking, I was undoubtedly "a crazy person in a luxury hotel lounge, staring into the void while meticulously stroking a stuffed toy." But for the sake of the perfect shot, you simply have to empty your mind and become "nothingness."

Glancing to my side, I noticed the woman at the next table looked momentarily startled. But hey, there's an unspoken solidarity among people enjoying solo outings—she gracefully ignored me and went back to her own business. As for the guy on my other side, he was locked in a staring contest with his laptop and completely oblivious to my highly suspicious movements.
"Friday nights are so easy to breathe in... the lounge is full of solo-goers completely immersed in their own worlds!"
Reassured by this realization, I happily continued snapping away with a clear and sunny state of mind.
Unexpectedly Cozy
With the photoshoot finally wrapped up, I could at last dig into my slightly cooled tea and sweets.
I have a confession to make: the last time I visited this lounge and ordered the Mont Blanc Parfait, I was left slightly traumatized by how overwhelmingly sweet it was... but this time was a totally different story. Forgive the incredibly cliché review, but every single item—from the savories to the sweets—was absolutely delicious!
The drinks I requested through the mobile order system were brought over immediately, and the staff maintained a perfectly polite but unobtrusive distance, making the whole experience wonderfully comfortable.
Remember my firm resolution to "leave in an hour and a half"? Well, it ended up being so relaxing that before I knew it, I had stayed for the full three-hour time limit!
I got my adorable photos, and both my stomach and my soul were fully satisfied. It was a truly perfect day.

Daiichi Hotel Tokyo Lobby Lounge: Top Recommendations
Finally, for all my fellow otaku planning a trip to the Daiichi Hotel Tokyo Lobby Lounge, here is a quick roundup of why I highly recommend it:
- The plates on the tea stand are removable (with polite instructions included!). When plates are fixed to the stand, your camera angles are severely limited. Being able to take the plates off and lay them flat on the table dramatically expands your photo options!
- Stress-free mobile ordering. Being able to order refills on your smartphone at your own pace—without having to try and catch a waiter’s eye—is an absolute lifesaver for solo outings.
- Polite service with the "perfect distance." Rather than the stiff, tense atmosphere you sometimes get at luxury hotels, this place had the relaxed vibe of a classic retro cafe (jun-kissa). The staff have mastered the art of leaving you alone while still providing incredibly polite service. The comfort level was off the charts.
- Delicious savories and sweets. Everything I had this time was genuinely delicious! Even if taking photos is the main objective, having great food and drinks truly skyrockets your overall satisfaction. (Note: The ratio felt like it leaned slightly more toward sweets.)
- Direct station access (Zero surface exposure!). The hotel is connected directly to Shimbashi Station via an underground passage. If you take the subway, you can get to the lounge without ever stepping foot above ground.
- 10% discount for members. If you sign up for the hotel’s free membership, you get 10% off your bill. That’s a pretty massive discount, so I highly recommend registering before you go.
Doing a solo plushie photoshoot at a hotel afternoon tea can be a little nerve-wracking at first, but the combination of delicious food, a gorgeous space, and the comfort of being able to completely immerse yourself in your own world is truly exceptional.
I highly recommend grabbing your favorite plushies and paying the Daiichi Hotel Tokyo Lobby Lounge a visit!
